Week One

Oh my goodness. There's so much to say about Korea -- too much, in fact.

I'm not teaching middle schoolers after all, but 2nd through 6th grade. It works out for the better, really. I have two classes of the 6th graders and they're so full of attitude that my younger kids are a relief. I think 4th grade is going to be my favorite; they're a riot. Earlier this week they played a writing game where the class made up a starter sentence that everyone wrote down, then they passed their papers around the room and added sentences to each others' stories. So, for your reading pleasure...

Story 1: One day, a grandpa was walking when an eagle pooped on his head. he shot the gun but eagle eat it. And eagle pooped many time to grandpa. so he was very mad so he threw new clevar (translation: nuclear). but grandpa throwing the people was not hitting. so he was smoking. new clevar is fantastic things.

Story 2: One day a grandpa* was walking when an eagle pooped on his head. He not want to know what is this. But he know what is this. That's good, grandpa. it is poop. So grandpa angry.  So grandpa kick a eagle. eagle is die. But grandpa feel very shock. he do poop and get and threw to eagle but eagle eat it.

Story 3: One day a grandpa was walking when an eagle pooped on his head. And grandpa throw poop to eagle's mouth and eagle is very angry and have many eagle and every eagle pooped to grandpa. And grandpa throw mud and every grandpa have war to eagle. And grandpa win. And eagle is in to the grandpa's mouth, so he go to PC room** and play computer game 2000 hours. and a person threw a poop in to the grandpa. A grandpa was many angry so he was go to village and have a water***.

Ah, fourth grade.

* In a place where age and status are a big deal, the fact that this story is a about a grandpa is extra funny, especially to 10-year-olds.
** The kids LOVE the PC Bong (bong = room). It's literally a big room full of computers where they can hang out and play games.
*** Ha, Edgar asked me how to spell "alcohol" and I made him write something else. He chose water instead.
